Overview

YK-90 is a smooth surface chromium tungsten carbide weld overlay plate without cracks.
The manufacturing process of YK-90, along with the microstructure and chemical composition, give YK-80 its superior properties. YK-90 suited for applications requiring severe abrasion resistance at elevated temperatures up to 900℃. Large sheets or custom shapes are available and can be formed into complex shapes.

Manufacture

YK-90 is manufactured by advanced welding an abrasion resistant material to a mild steel base. Complex and chromium rich powder are fused to the base plate, creating a bi-metallic material with high abrasion & temperature resistance whilst still retaining ductility allowing forming and welding. Multiple overlay and backing plate thickness options are available.

Microstructure

A YK-90 microstructure consists of fine, primary M7C3 and MC carbides surrounded by
a eutectic mixture of carbides and austenitic matrix material. The very hard primary carbides form as hexagonal nodules and help to prevent wear of the hardfacing material. The austenitic matrix material provides mechanical support to the primary carbides whilst also helping to absorb impact.
